A giant named George

George Steinbrenner passed away yesterday at the age of 80. Mr. Steinbrenner was a giant among men in the world of baseball. As a Yankee fan, what he did for my team was amazing. What he did for the game helped to keep baseball relevant and current. In a time when football and basketball became major competitors. Steinbrenner turned the Yankees into the Evil Empire. Love or hate the Yankees we all watched. He demanded perfection. He expected nothing less. Maybe we all should learn from his example and strive to be our best.

Rest in peace George. Our condolences to his family.

  1. As a life long Yankee fan I never realized how generous Mr. Steinbrenner was. Nothing wrong with disliking a team because of the finances behind. I have to disargee with one thing about the Yankees buying all their players. Jeter, Posada, Pettite…these guys came up through the Yankee system.

  2. It is a sad time for the baseball world especially with the all star game being played on the same day, but I am also surprised at the amount of praise that the man who was once known as the most hated man in baseball. He definitely did do a lot for the New York Yankees and I’m sure the city is very grateful for it. I also kind of like/hate the fact that I have a team to hate for in the Yankees because they just buy all their players. Also you think you could take a quick look at my blog cuz I really want to know what you think. http://chrisross91.wordpress.com/2010/07/14/greatest-owner-ever-hardly/
