26-game hit streak for the Dodgers’ Andre Ethier

Andre Ethier kept his hitting streak alive yesterday at 26. He is rewriting Dodgers history and who knows, maybe MLB history too? There are many records in baseball that carry mystique. Hitting streaks are one of them.

We all know of Joe Dimaggio’s 56-game hit streak. The Great Dimaggio still holds the single season record for consecutive hits. However, what many people seem to forget, is that at any given time during a season, there are many hitting streaks. So, lets take a quick look:

Andre Ethier has 26, but Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals has 19.  Gordon’s teammate, Jeff Francoeur stands at 17. The well traveled Johnny Damon of Tampa Bay sits on 16 consecutive hits.

Check out the complete current list at ESPN of the 2011 MLB Baseball Hitting Streaks.

Hitting in baseball is more than a science. It’s a fine art. To have a consecutive hit streak I think of more than 5-8 games is impressive. But to have more than 20 shows ture talent.

Agree? Disagree? Let me know what you think!
